We make mistakes (a lot) and it's good if we can at least learn from them. Yes, they can be pretty embarrassing, that's why most of us prefer to forget about them. But if you're just starting your career you might want to know what 7 mistakes almost everyone commits at the start of their career, so you could be prepared.

#1 - Having Too High Expectations

When you're graduating from college you think that your future job is a dream job. That it would be as perfect as you always imagined. Well, we all think that way until we face the reality. The thing is every job has its pros and cons, and there will be a lot of hard work and a lot to learn before it starts being at least on half that romantic as you thought it would be. But, a lot of people face such kind of disappointment at the beginning, especially those who weren't realistic from the start. What you need to realize is that any job is not a piece of cake. Well, that is a mistake that everyone does in their 20s. You're a rookie, don't have a lot of experience and sometimes, simply don't know what you are worth. So, beforehand find out how much professionals of your level earn and seriously think about how much money you'd want to earn on that position. Try not to hesitate, it's better to discuss your salary when hired that have an unpleasant surprise later.

Inexperienced workers often commit one simple mistake - they take initiative to show how productive and smart they are and then realize that it's much more then they could handle. It's okay not to know something, especially at the very beginning of your career. But biting more than you can chew just to become your bosses favorite or to make colleagues respect you is not the best way to succeed. The best thing you can do - is to take control over your emotions and reactions, be a professional and try your best to coexist peacefully. It will be hard sometimes, but eventually you'll have a priceless experience of dealing with toxic people, and those you will meet in your life a lot.

#6 - Being Scared To Make A Mistake

When you're a newbie and everyone else at the company is not you might feel really insecure. And sometimes this insecurity flows out into a fear of taking the smallest decision without the directions from your manager. But it's not a preschool and no one has the time to hold your hand. You shouldn't be afraid to take initiative just to avoid making a mistake. No one promotes passive and unconfident people.

Job-hunting is not an easy process. While looking for a job you have to show patience, spend much time and do a lot of work. So before you leap into a new job search, it’s important to take some time to consider exactly what it is you are looking for. What skills you can contribute to a company and what kind of job can help you achieve your career goals. These questions you should ask yourself will help you save time and effort in your job search:

1. What do I want from a job?

The first thing is to decide what kind of work do you want to do. Do you want to work at the same field you are now or are you ready for some serious changes? 5 Things You Should Consider Getting Rid of in Your CV


Remove these 5 things from your CV to get more job interviews. You need to act now!

1) Whatever does not improve your chances of landing the job e.g. marital status, ethnic group, religion, state of origin and so on.

2) Irrelevant job experiences: remove any job experience that does not relate to the new job you want.

3) Unprofessional email addresses and personal social media IDs: e.g. sexyshady@yahoo.com, fineboyemeka@gmail.com, or your twitter and Facebook accounts where you post nude pictures, rant about your personal/emotional issues and so on.

4) Salary information: do not include your salary figures or info at your last job and also your expected salary in the new job you are pursuing.

5) "Referees Available upon Request": for goodness sakes, why wait for it to be requested before giving it out? If you've got enough space, add your references especially if they are very valuable ones that can help you land the job.

Each job opening at any site leads to thousands of resumes sent to the future employer. Imagine having to look through them over and over hoping to find a perfect candidate, making several appointments daily to invite possible candidates, spending hours interviewing them and then – choosing a right person for the job.

1. Adapt the resume

If you are not willing to spend some time adjusting your resume to the job you want to get, why should your future employer spend time hoping you would be perfect? The best way to update your resume would be to write a short summary in the first paragraph describing why would you be perfect for the job and highlighting most important points.
The other way to do this is to delete all the irrelevant experience from this version of your resume and attach an extra copy of a complete one.

2. Avoid cliché words

If you find yourself repeating words and expressions like ‘responsible’, ‘developed’, ‘successfully’ more often than you should have, than maybe it is time for you to use some synonyms instead at sites like thesaurus.com and many others.

3. Your resume should be easy-to-read

Write your resume in reverse chronology – placing the latest experience at the top to make it more visible. Make sure you do not write to much about each job and use bullets as often as you can to make it easy to look through. Your resume should not be over two pages long.

4. Achievements

Try to show your achievements whenever possible. Use numbers to show how much progress you got and how big the team was that you were in charge of.

5. Use keywords in your resume

When you read an article or a job opening you most often scan through it to see for most important points. The same happens with your resume – the employer scans through it to see whether there is anything that might be good for the job.

Mission is what you enjoying doing and what you feel the world needs. By so doing, I feel you have established a PURPOSE, which gives reasons to why you are doing what you chose as a CAREER.
